Hoy 21 de febrero se conmemora el Dia Internacional de la Lengua Materna con el fin de preservar y proteger todos los idiomas y dialectos que se hablan en todo el mundo, si bien la diversidad lingüística cada día se encuentra más en extinción, por el mayor número de lenguas que desaparecen. De acuerdo con la Organización de las Naciones Unidas (ONU) como promedio, cada dos semanas, una lengua desaparece, llevándose consigo la desaparición también de todo un patrimonio cultural e intelectual.
El día internacional de la Lengua Materna es muy importante para México ya que es uno de los diez países con mayor diversidad lingüística del mundo, el segundo en número de lenguas vivas en el continente americano, cuenta un riqueza cultural y lingüística al tener al menos 68 agrupaciones lingüísticas y 364 variantes (INALI 2019), esta diversidad cultural es muy importante ya que sin ella no se tendría identidad, comunicación, una buena integración social una educación y un desarrollo.
Esta diversidad lingüística corre un mayor riesgo de que se vayan extinguiendo debido a los procesos de globalización poniendo en amenaza a las comunidades y pueblos indígenas del país ya que al desaparecer la lengua materna se pierde su cosmovisión, sus tradiciones, recuerdos, sus pensamientos y expresiones.
En Xilotl A.C. trabajamos con comunidades indígenas del municipio de Ocosingo, Chiapas donde la mayoría habla la lengua en tzeltal, a través de ella trasmiten y preservan sus conocimientos y culturas tradicionales de manera sostenible. ¿Sabías qué? las variantes del tzeltal pertenecen al grupo cholano-tzeltalano de la familia lingüística maya. Además, los tzeltales llaman a su lengua bats’il k’op, que significa palabra verdadera o se llaman así mismos bats’il winik (hombres verdaderos), así como el tzeltal existen muchas variantes lingüísticas que son interesantes, te invitamos a acercarte a alguna de ellas y conocer un poco más de la diversidad lingüística de México y así se comprenda la importancia que tienen las lenguas maternas y que esta conmemoración del 21 de febrero del 2020 se sume a iniciativas que fortalezcan las identidades fundamentales en el uso de la lengua materna y a su vez de los derechos lingüísticos.
